Red wine is a type of wine made from dark-coloured (black) grape varieties. The actual colour of the wine can range from intense violet, typical of young wines, through to brick red for mature wines and brown for older red wines.
The juice from most black grapes is greenish-white; the red colour comes from anthocyan pigments (also called anthocyanins) naturally present in the skin of the grape; exceptions are the relatively uncommon teinturier varieties, which produce a red colored juice. Much of the red-wine production process therefore involves extraction of colour and flavour components from the grape skin.

The our wine "Toscano" is a beautiful blend of Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo grapes grown in the low-yielding organic vineyard of the Tenuta Santa Lucia on coastal Tuscany, near Pisa. Bright ruby red colour. Very fresh and fruity at nose, with lots of cherry notes. Taste, fairly intense with sweet cherry flavours.
Aged for 24 months in oak casks. It completes its refinement in bottles for a minimum period of 3 months. Ruby red colour tending to garnet with ageing. Bouquet, cedar, sandalwood and a sweet dustiness on the nose. Taste, cherry and toasted oak palate. The finish has fine-grained tannins and a lovely back-end bouquet.

Our wine Toscana "Casone" is produced with Sangiovese and Syrah grapes, attentively harvested by hand and selected to give birth to this “Supertuscan”wine. Colour, deep ruby red. The refinement in barrique favours the integration of the aromas giving a pleasant final touch of wood and leather.

Special rolling presses are used to give a soft treatment to the grapes, then placed in temperature-controlled tanks. The Ceppaiano Estate was born in 2005. Initially conceived as an extension of the Poggio al Casone vineyards and location of the new winery, it afterwards becomes an independent estate as a result of subsequent land acquisitions that differ from those of Poggio al Casone for the prevalence of alluvial sands arranged on foothill heights overlooking the coast.
