The Wine Advocate 2009

The Wine Advocate # 184Aug 2009 Antonio Galloni

Tenuta di Burchino-Sangiovese Genius Loci 2005IP:90

The 2005 Sangiovese Genius Loci is remarkably elegant and polished; qualities that were hard to come by in this challenging vintage. The plush, dark red fruit coats the palate all the way through to the long, refined finish.

Tenuta di Burchino- L'Antico di Burchino Vigna Casanova 2007 IP: 88

The 2007 L’Antico di Burchino Vigna Casanova is a gorgeous, mid-weight offering laced with perfumed, ethereal fruit.

This is an absolutely beautiful wine made from Demeter-certified biodynamic fruit.

Tenuta di Burchino- Toscana il Burchino 2006 IP: 88

The 2006 Il Burchino (85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet, 5% Merlot) offers up attractive dark red fruit, smoke and sweet spices in a medium-bodied, round style, with excellent balance and a long, harmonious close.

Fattoria di Campomaggio-Chianti Classico Riserva 2004 IP: 88

The estate’s 2004 Chianti Classico Riserva shows good clarity and freshness in a focused interpretation of Chianti Classico. Red berries, tobacco and spices all come together in this pretty, well-delineated offering. Here, too, the style is a bit on the linear side, but I get a sense that this bottling’s full potential is still to be realized, something that will most likely come through lower yields in future vintages.

Fattoria di Campomaggio- Chianti Classico 2006 IP: 87

The 2006 Chianti Classico is a plump, juicy wine bursting with generous perfumed red fruit. Sweet oak and spices add a touch of complexity on the finish. With a little more depth and persistence this wine might very well merit a higher score. Still, it is a supple, easygoing offering that should continue to drink nicely over the next few years.

Fattoria di Campomaggio- Toscana Rosso 2005 IP: 87

The 2005 Toscana Rosso reveals plenty of intensity in its dark red fruit, smoke and spices. Made in a forward, soft, style, this French oak-aged blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Syrah is best enjoyed while the fruit is vibrant.
